Also second game i played on that thing is ww2 airplane shooter and "cutting edge" Sims 2 at default settings. very surprised a work laptop able to ran it at playable framerate of what fraps nowadays stated as 28fps ain't buttery smooth but passable. kids mind is amazing indeed still makes me immune to low fps (saw that new video of a boy play fortnite at choppy 10fps that's is a slideshow territory.. that's my line right there ain't going near that)

I played all the FPS games, hitman, C&C red alert and mechwarrior when I built my first all new parts pc in the early 2000's. Before that I had screwed around with older pc's and overclocked but my 1.2Ghz Athlon (they just released the 1.33Ghz but they sold out, I overclocked it anyway) with a Geforce 2 mx as a temporary card (best budget card ever) was my first all new high end system capable of running anything better than Quake 2, and it was beautiful. I upgraded to a Geforce 3 Ti 200 shortly after and overclocked it to Ti 500 speeds which was like a free $150 for me (the cards were identical, if you got a good sample overclocking was pretty much a sure thing) and unlocked dual layer burning on my lite-on dvd burner for another saving of $70 or so. Cant forget my game-theatre XP 5.1 surround EAX sound card and rack. For the time it was a crazy build and shortly after some amazing games came out showing what PC gaming was really capable of. It was a great time to be a PC gamer. The game that totally blew my mind though was Max Payne, it had just come out and one of my dads friends... procured a copy. Gaming at what was a pixel density close to full HD (but at 4:3) back then was just unheard of and bullet time just felt so right. I immediately went out and bought a copy as a result. My apologies for the short novel.

I don't think anyone in the gaming world takes issue with female leads. There are a lot of examples of great strong female characters in games (e.g., Samus Aran, Zelda, Croft, etc.). I think most people take issue with the unrealistic portrayal of women in games (e.g., women overpowering men on their own strength, women without character flaws, etc.).

Quake 3 was a game I was quite addicted to. Never tried the previous games, as I was mostly into my friends Playstation. I sucked at Quake 3, regardless of how hard I tried, at a PC/Internet cafe/PC Gamer store where LAN parties occurred a few times a week, I would try to beat this one adult who always butchered me. I got a copy of the game and practiced for about a week or so, came back and dominated. Another kid who no one could beat was later banned for aim botting and something else apparently. Dude always got one shot headshots and that was my first ever run in with the aim bot, I didn't know of aim botting back then, I just considered him stupidly gifted. But yeah. Quake 3 was the first ever game I joined in on a proper LAN party as well, grabbing junk food from the shop around the corner and gaming till about 9-10 PM then got collected by my mom whilst the adults got to stay and play haha.

As a Dreamcast fan, I can attest Brandon Justice was the man when it came to Dreamcast reviews and certainly one of the more respectable reviewers for IGN back in the day. In fact, IGN was THE source for all things gaming at the time and usually ahead of the pack in terms of online reviews. The Time Warner take over just made them too commercial. No One Lives Forever is still an absolute classic and deserving of a remaster.

@12:22 No one today would ask why "is the lead character a female" There's a universe of difference between NOLF's Kate Archer and the moronic mary sues like Rey Palpatine and Captain Marvel in pop culture. NOLF was a masterpiece in character development and story in a parody, tongue in cheek way, that modern SJW lunatics over at naughty dog, activision/blizzard, ubisoft, bethesda, etc., could only ever dream of writing. They'd lose their minds over the stereotypical, clichéd masculine characters that only served to make Kate Archer even better. It's called nuance, something most modern AAA titles have lost.

Spent $5k on a system and got me the 'sweet' 19" Sony monitor to go with it. That thing weighed 40 pounds. Then I convinced him to play CS with me. He was sooooo bad at it. I had to handicap myself and use only the knife and I still destroyed him. And I wasn't even that good. That computer got me playing some awesome classics back then. Max Payne, Morrowind, Half-Life and CS. Good times...
